An explosion that occurred at a hotel in the eastern Mexican city of Cancun injured 11 people on Tuesday, police said.

The explosion took place at the kitchen of the Royal Caribbean Hotel early in the morning.

A preliminary investigation showed that the blast was caused by the accumulation of natural gas in a workers' dining-room near the kitchen.

Most of the injured, including two seriously, were employees of the hotel.

A hotel guest was slightly poisoned due to the emission of poisonous gas after the blast.
