Spain will facilitate negotiations on a trade agreement between the Andean Community of Nations (CAN) and the European Union (EU), Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said here Wednesday.
"Spain will support the proposal to accelerate the negotiations of the association agreement between the CAN and the EU with the countries interested," Moratinos said after concluding his visit to Colombia.
Earlier, during a meeting with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, he said Colombia has the "legal rights" to integrate itself and form a strategic alliance with the EU due to their strengthened trade relations.
For his part, Uribe said the negotiations with the EU are very important for the CAN, which groups Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
"The cooperation agreement, as well as the political dialogue with the EU, is a guarantee for our countries to overcome the terrorism," he said.
The CAN and the EU are currently negotiating an association accord that includes a free trade agreement.
