A 4.0-magnitude earthquake rattled parts of the Los Angeles area on Monday, but there was not immediate report of injuries or damage.
The quake, which struck around 7:14 a.m. local time, was centered 2 miles (about 3 kilometers) east-northeast of the San Bernardino County community of Loma Linda and at a depth of 6 miles (about 9.6 kilometers), according to the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
Loma Linda has a population of 21,000 and is home to Loma Linda University and Medical Center.
The main shock was preceded by a pair of magnitude-2.6 foreshocks including one that hit 10 minutes earlier, Caltech seismologist Kate Hutton said.
"It was felt pretty much throughout the Inland Empire," Hutton said, referring to the fast-growing region east of Los Angeles that includes San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department had not received reports of injuries or damage, dispatch supervisor Shelby White said.
