U.S. President George W. Bush believes the Iran's nuclear issue can be solved diplomatically, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said Wednesday.
"What I can tell you is President Bush believes that we can solve this issue diplomatically, and that everyone's preference is to solve it diplomatically, not just in the United States, but with our allies and certainly with Israel," Perino said at the daily briefing.
As to reports that there is pressure from Israeli officials on the Bush administration to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities before the end of its term, and if the United States does not do that, then Israel will do, Perino said: "This is a rumor that I hear quite a lot from reporters being brought to us."
According to a report by the New York Times on Friday, Israel had carried out a big military exercise in an apparent rehearsal for a potential strike at Iran's nuclear sites.
Meanwhile, Israel's Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz has threatened that Iran would face an attack from Israel if Iran continues to pursue its nuclear weapons program.
The United States has accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program. Iran has denied U.S. charges and insisted that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
