Six people, including a police officer, were killed Saturday in separate conflicts in Mexico amid rising concerns about violent crimes in the country.
The police officer was shot dead and his partner seriously wounded in central Mexico after they responded to a public altercation. The thugs were arrested later by police, authorities said.
Also on Saturday, five people were shot dead in the northern border state of Chihuahua, local officials said.
The murder of the police officer brought to nine the number of police officers killed in 48 hours in the country.
A federal police commander and his bodyguard were shot dead Thursday in a restaurant in Mexico City, and six more officers were killed later that day in Culiacan, Sinaloa state.
More than 450 police officers have been killed since President Felipe Calderon launched a massive operation against organized crime in December 2006. Source: Xinhua
