U.S. President George W. Bush called his Colombian counterpart Alvaro Uribe on Wednesday for the rescue of 15 hostages held by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebels, the White House said.
"President Bush congratulated President Uribe, telling him he is a 'strong leader'," U.S. National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.
"President Uribe thanked President Bush for his support and confidence in the government of Colombia," Johndroe said.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was also "delighted" at the rescue of hostages, including three Americans.
Moreover, Rice called on FARC to release immediately all the remaining hostages they are holding.
Earlier Wednesday, Colombian military launched a successful military operation and rescued the 15 hostages, including three Americans and Franco-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt.
