Cuban Leader Raul Castro met with Esoop Pahad, minister of the presidency of South Africa, who is on a working visit to Cuba, official daily "Granma" reported Thursday.

During their conversations Wednesday, the two leaders discussed the development of the two nations' excellent bilateral relations and analyzed regional and international issues concerning both sides. Castro sent a message to South African President Thabo Mbeki.

Other participants included Cuban Vice President Estaban Lazo and for South Africa, Thando Nyawose, acting commercial attache in Havana.

Pahad arrived in Cuba Monday, and met with Lazo Tuesday. They discussed how to handle the current world socio-economic situation and expressed the will to continue the cooperation between the two countries and strengthen bilateral ties.
