The remains of two U.S. soldiers who went missing more than a year ago in Iraq have been found and returned to the United States, U.S. media reported Friday.
The father of Alex R. Jimenez said military officers had visited his home and told him that the bodies of his 25-year-old son and the other soldier, Byron W. Fouty, 19, have been found, CNN reported.
He said an informant had led U.S. investigators to the remains of the two soldiers who were identified by their dental records.
Pentagon has not officially confirmed the report, but an unidentified defense official said the remains of the two soldiers had been returned to the United States for further tests to determine the cause of death.
Three U.S. soldiers went missing after an ambush on May 12, 2007 in an area south of Baghdad called "the Triangle of Death." The body of the third soldier, Joseph J. Anzack Jr, 20, was found in a river in Babil province earlier this year.
Four other U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter were killed in the same ambush.
According to U.S. military statistics, as of Friday, as many as 4,116 U.S. soldiers have been killed since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. Source:Xinhua
