Police began on Tuesday to investigate into the killing of a 17-year-old boy overnight on a street in a remote Los Angeles area, where at least four slayings occurred in one day, authorities said.
The shooting was reported around 8:50 p.m. Monday in the unincorporated Los Angeles County community of Westmont, about 15 kilometers south of downtown Los Angeles. Police said it was the fourth fatal shooting in the area in less than 24 hours.
The victim was riding his bicycle when a dark compact car pulled up and two male "gang types" armed with a handgun shot him, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Aura Sierra.
Sierra said the assailants fled after the attack and the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was at least the second fatal shooting in the area since the weekend. Three men were earlier fatally wounded when gunfire erupted at a car enthusiasts' "cruising event" Sunday night at a street corner near the scene, police said.
