Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa Friday described ties with Paraguay as "extraordinary," promising to push the relationship to a higher level, said a statement posted on the website of the Ecuadorian Presidency.
A new page starts Friday for Paraguay with the swearing-in of Fernando Lugo as the country's new president, Correa told TV channel 9 of Asuncion.
"I usually do not give advices to whom has not requested them, but Fernando (Lugo) knows that he can count on us, and if I can be of any help, we will always be willing to help," Correa said.
Correa said "together with presidents Fernando Lugo from Paraguay, Hugo Chavez from Venezuela, Michelle Bachelet from Chile, Cristina Fernandez from Argentina and other progressive governments, we shape the axis of hope in Latin America."
"Latin America is going through a period of change to definitely bury neo-liberalism and to look for systems that are more fair and equitable for the future of our people," Correa said.
Correa said his government has 70 percent of support "because we do what we said and what we promised, we follow the mandate given to us by the Ecuadorian people in the November elections of 2006."
"The people can agree or disagree with us, but they know we are serious, honest, transparent and democratic people," Correa said. Source:Xinhua
