U.S. Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama added more than 65,000 new donors and raised 51 million U.S. dollars in July, his campaign said Saturday.
"The 65,000 new donors to the Obama campaign demonstrate just how strongly the American people are looking to fundamentally change business as usual in Washington," Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said in a statement.
The campaign of Obama's Republican rival John McCain announced Friday that it raised 27 million dollars in July, his best monthly total.
McCain hopes he can close the fundraising gap with Obama with the help of the strong fundraising machine of Republican National Committee, or RNC, which raised 26 million dollars last month and has over a million donors during this election cycle.
