Raging tropical storm Fay has brought floods to Haiti, killing at least 50 people in Haiti when the bus they were aboard was dragged by a river due to the strong rain the storm produced, authorities said on Monday.
According to information reaching here from Port au Prince, capital of Haiti on Monday, in the bus there were some 80 people, and among them there were many children.
The waters of the Glace river, in the province of Grand-Anse (southwest), dragged the bus on Sunday and only 25 people survived because they reached the roof of the bus. The rest of the passengers are missing.
Fay crossed on Monday the Cuban territory from south to north.
The National Center of Hurricanes from Miami said that Fay has winds of 85 kilometers per hour and superior gusts.
Fay is moving to some 20 kilometers per hour and it is expected to become into hurricane when it goes out again to the sea, before it reaches Florida in the Unites States.
Cuban authorities announced emergency measures due to the possibility of floods in the coast zones.
"Fay" has killed at least four people in Dominican Republic and left thousands of homeless people.
