U.S. President George W. Bush has expressed condolences to the families of those killed in Wednesday's deadly plane crash in Madrid, Spain, U.S. National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said Thursday.
"The president would like to express his profound sorrow over the tragic accident that occurred yesterday at Barajas Airport in Madrid, offers his sincere condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in that tragic air accident there in Spain," Johndroe told reporters in Crawford, Texas where Bush is having vocation.
At least 153 people died Wednesday after a Spanair MD-82 crashed on takeoff and burst into flames at Madrid's Barajas airport at 2:45 p.m. local time (1245 GMT). It was believed to be the worst air crash in Spain in decades.
