Ten people died and four were injured when a small plane crashed in Zacapa department, eastern Guatemala on Sunday, spokesman of the Volunteer Firemen Team Carlos Salazar said.
According to information reaching here from Guatemala City, five of the 10 killed were United States citizens from the state of Wisconsin who here on vacations, and the other five were Guatemalans, including the pilot and the copilot.
The accident occurred Sunday's morning when the aircraft felt down in a hill at the municipality of Cabanas, east of Guatemala and border with Mexico.
The CBV's spokesman Salazar told the press that the aircraft had Guatemalan license plate and that is felt down in the department of Zacapa.
The aircraft took off from the International Airport of La Aurora to El Estor, in the department of Izabal.
Civil Aeronautics Agency director Juan Jose Carlos said at least 14 people were abroad the plane, and the aircraft belonged to the company Aero Ruta Maya and that supposedly it has an enginefailure when it was flying over Zacapa.
The injured people were transferred by helicopter to the hospital of Zacapa. Source:Xinhua
