One person was killed and another injured lightly after a small plane crashed in Canada's Northwest Territories, police said Monday.

The SuperClub went down about 100 kilometers north of Fort Liard in the Jackfish Creek area on Aug. 21, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said in a release.

The pilot suffered extensive injuries and was airlifted to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The passenger was treated and later released from hospital.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident.
