The United States said on Wednesday that there was no evidence of actual reconstruction of nuclear facility by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) although there were reports saying Pyongyang appeared to be moving equipment at the site.
"Our understanding is that the North Koreans are moving some equipment around that they had previously put into storage," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters, saying U.S. personnel were still at Yongbyon to oversee the previous deal on its disablement.
"To my knowledge, based on what we know from the reports on the ground, you don't have an effort to reconstruct, reintegrate this equipment back into the Yongbyon facility," McCormack said.
The DPRK said on Aug. 26 that it had stopped disabling its nuclear facilities and considered restoring the Yongbyon nuclear reactor that can make material for atomic bombs, accusing the United States of violating a disarmament deal.
