U.S. Republican presidential hopeful John McCain welcomes "the emergence of a peaceful and prosperous China" and supports the notion of "stakeholder", his aide said Wednesday.

McCain thought "China's peaceful rise is good for us all," McCain's deputy foreign policy advisor Kori Schake told reporters on the sideline of the ongoing Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn.

She also said McCain favors continuing U.S.-China "conversations" on trade, currency, product safety and other areas of mutual concern.

Schake noted that the U.S.-China trade has created export opportunities for American farmers and workers. She also said developed countries like United States and developing economies, particularly India and China, need to have more cooperation in dealing with the common challenge of climate change.
