U.S. Senator from Arizona John McCain will formally accept Republican presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention Thursday night in St. Paul, Minnesota.
He is set to speak around 9 p.m. local time (0200 GMT Friday) and make his own case before the nation. Former Pennsylvania governor Tom Ridge, South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham and McCain's wife, Cindy McCain, will all have significant roles in the lead-up to McCain's speech.
McCain's speech comes a day after his vice presidential pick Sarah Palin delivered what some say was the most important speech of her life. Palin introduced herself to the world, calling herself a "hockey mom," and then asked what the difference was between a hockey mom and a pit bull.
Palin's Democratic counterpart, vice presidential nominee Joe Biden, praised her speech as "incredibly well crafted and delivered," but said Palin's rhetoric lacked substance.
