U.S. Republicans formally nominated Alaksa governor Sarah Palin as the party's vice presidential candidate Thursday at their national convention.
There is only one name on the ballot and her nomination was unanimously approved by acclamation during the Republican National Convention in St. Paul in the U.S. state of Minnesota.
Palin, a 44-year-old mom of five children, had already accepted vice presidential nomination and delivered a speech at the convention Wednesday night.
In her fiery address, Palin criticized Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and said Republican nominee John McCain is a much stronger choice to lead the country.
McCain, a U.S. Senator from Arizona, was nominated as the party's presidential candidate Wednesday and will accept the nomination at the convention later Thursday.
