The United States said Friday that it respects Pakistan's sovereignty and is determined to work with the country to fight terrorism amid Pakistan's condemnation against the killings of civilians by the U.S.-led coalition in its tribal region.
"We respect their sovereignty and we support their new civilian government," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters.
Perino declined to comment directly on alleged American strikes inside Pakistan. Instead, she said that President George W. Bush "grieves any time there is a loss of innocent life."
Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Thursday strongly condemned as "shameful and unprovoked" an attack by the Afghanistan-based U.S.-led coalition in its tribal region, which killed some 20 people.
"It was a shameful, uncalled for and unprovoked incident and innocent people were killed," Qureshi said in the National Assembly, the lower house of the parliament. Source: Xinhua
