Members of the disbanded 9/11 Commission on Tuesday criticized the Bush administration in a new report for its inadequate efforts to prevent potential attacks of Weapons of Mass Destructions (WMD) by terrorists.
The members, now joined the bipartisan Partnership for a Secure America (PSA), said a new report to be released here Wednesday will point out that the country is "dangerously vulnerable" to chemical, biological, and nuclear attacks seven years after 9/11 due to lack of prevention efforts.
Lee Hamilton, a former co-chair of 9/11 Commission and now leading the PSA, said the Bush administration has fallen short on many aspects on the WMD terrorism, including slowing down efforts to deny terrorists access to WMD-related technology and materials, leaving thousands of U.S. chemical plants unprotected, opposing new international deals to prevent bioterrorism, and increasing confrontation with Russia over Georgia.
He was quoted by the Washington Post's web site as saying that the report will conclude that "the threat of a new, major terrorist attack on the United States is still very real," because the nation are still "dangerously vulnerable" when facing threats of nuclear, chemical or biological weapon held by terrorists.
