Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez urged his Bolivian counterpart Evo Morales on Sunday to hold on to the fight, while condemning the coup in Bolivia.

Chavez said that Morales was fighting in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba a battle to keep democracy, referring to the meeting between Morales and five opposition governors.

Bolivia was part of the great homeland, Latin America, Chavez said, adding that the region was being attacked by U.S. imperialism.

Chavez criticized the commander of the Armed Forces of Bolivia General Luis Trigo for not enforcing the state of siege ordered by Morales in the department of Pando.

Chavez made these remarks during his Sunday TV and radio program "Hello, President" and he warned that his government would thwart a coup in Bolivia and that he was ready to die for that nation. Chavez asked Trigo to defend Bolivia like the Liberator Simon Bolivar did, who fought among other independence heroes.

"Resist, Evo (Morales)! We are with you!" Chavez said.

"If something happens to Evo, if he is overthrown, I won't remain arms crossed," Chavez said.

He rejected the remarks by Bolivian Defense Minister Walker San Miguel who refused what he called Venezuelan interference.
