U.S. President George W. Bush pledged on Monday to help Ghana combat poverty, disease and illiteracy, and promote free elections and trade in the African country.
In his welcoming ceremony at the White House for Ghana President John Kufuor, Bush said that Ghana "is a model of entrepreneurship and democracy and peace on the continent of Africa."
In response, Kufuor thanked the Bush administration for providing Ghana with developing assistance, especially U.S. help in battling HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other deadly diseases.
Bush visited Accra, the capital of Ghana in February.
