The international Quartet will meet soon on the preparation for a Moscow conference to evaluate the developments following a U.S.-hosted Mideast peace conference last November in Annapolis, a visiting Russian envoy said here on Wednesday.
Russian president's special representative to the Middle East Alexander Sultanov said Moscow will call on all parties concerned to deliver on their promises, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported.
Russia wants to hold a conference that will help push forward the Mideast peace process, including "the Palestinian-Israeli, Syrian-Israeli and probably even Lebanese-Israeli tracks," said Sultanov.
He said "There is still hope for the Middle East peace process," since both Israel and the Palestinians wish to keep negotiations and contacts going on.
The international Quartet on the Middle East includes the United States, Russia, the United Nations and the European Union.
Israeli and Palestinian leaders pledged at the U.S.-sponsored Annapolis conference to reach a comprehensive peace deal by the end of 2008, before U.S. President George W. Bush leaves the White House next January. But little visible progress has since been achieved.
