Twelve people were arrested and three boats were seized after Canadian police and coastal guards launched a raid against a drug smuggling ring off Canada's Atlantic coast, police said Monday.
A 13-meter sailboat was carrying a shipment of hash oil to pass on to waiting powerboats and the North American market when they were seized, Sgt. Mark Gallagher of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police told the Canadian Press.
He said two boats were seized early Sunday when they docked at Spanish Ship Bay near Ecum Secum, about 100 km up the coast from Halifax in Nova Scotia province, while the third was seized later, further offshore.
One of those boats was a cigar boat, a racing vessel that is not normally used in Atlantic Canadian waters.
The Canadian Coast Guard and the navy were called in to help with the bust. Twelve people were arrested, including a non-Canadian. Source:Xinhua
