U.S. President George W. Bush said he looks forward to deepening ties with Pakistan when he met with his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari here Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
"Pakistan is an ally, and I look forward to deepening our relationship," Bush said before the meeting.
"We will be discussing, of course, how to help spread prosperity. We want our friends around the world to be making a good living. We want there to be economic prosperity and we can work together, and of course we'll be talking about security," Bush said.
Bush also expressed condolences for the families of Saturday's bombing in Islamabad, in which more than 50 people were killed and over 200 others wounded.
For his part, Zardari said Pakistan will solve all its problems.
"We will solve all the problems. We have a situation ... We've got problems. But we will solve them and we will rise to the occasion," he said.
Zardari, who was sworn in as Pakistani president on Sept. 9, came to New York to attend the 63rd UN General Assembly.
