U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said here Monday that the UN Security Council resolution on Saturday was "a very positive step" and the six major countries will be moving forward on Iran's nuclear issue.

"I think it is a very positive step, the resolution on Iran," Rice said.

"We had only sought a resolution that would affirm the unity of the six, and to let the Iranians know that that unity is very strong and we will be moving forward ... the political directors will take up the issue moving forward," Rice said, suggesting further UN sanctions against Iran.

On Saturday, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution to reaffirm its previous resolutions on Iran and demand full compliance from the Islamic Republic.

Since 2006, the Security Council has passed four resolutions on Iran, three of which slapped incremental sanctions over its noncompliance with the UN's call for it to stop nuclear enrichment.

The United States has accused Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons, and Iran has denied the charge and said its nuclear program is peaceful.
