Chilean President Michelle Bachelet inaugurated an anti-corruption forum on Thursday, urging political actors to be responsible for the fight against corruption.

"The best antidote against corruption is to let the daylight fill each corner of our public and private activities," said Bachelet at the forum -- The Convention of the United Nations against Corruption, Challenges for its Application in Chile.

The president affirmed that her country has "tuned its sensitivity and intolerance to corruption, favoritism, patronage system, discriminations and sectarianism in the exercise of the public functions."

"Do we want the citizens to trust their institutions and authorities or are we going to take electoral advantage of accusations without bases?" she asked.

Bachelet was apparently referring to the rightist parties' criticisms of the alleged abuse of government's money for her presidential campaign in 2005.

"All Chile knows we are in electoral period and the political institutions are discredited every time," Bachelet said.
