U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday discussed efforts to curb worsening global financial crisis with his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the White House said.

In his telephone call to Merkel, Bush discussed "various measures that the United States is taking to bring stability to the markets, as well as the importance for all countries to work together to coordinate our actions to address problems facing the global economy," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.

Bush and Lula also talked over phone on the same topic, Perino said in a brief statement that offered no further details.

On Tuesday, Bush had separate telephone discussions with leaders of Britain, France, and Italy, calling for joint efforts to solve the financial crisis spreading around the globe.

The Bush administration was focusing on a meeting at the end of the week of finance ministers from the United States, Germany, Britain, France, Italy, Canada and Japan, Perino said.
