The National Meteorological Service of Mexico (SMN) said Sunday that Hurricane Norbert had degraded into a tropical storm and was moving to the northwest of Mexico after ravaging the country's Pacific coast.
Norbert made landfall in Mexico Saturday, blowing off roofs, knocking down trees and leaving more than 20,000 homes without electricity, local authorities said.
The storm was downgraded Sunday to a tropical depression after losing strength, the SMN said.
But civil protection authorities warned residents in the northern states of Coahuila, Chihuahua, Durango and Sinaloa that there could be continuing strong winds and heavy rains.
