French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Friday called for the overhaul of the financial system to make it well supervised and regulated as a measure to deal with the current crisis.
"There will be no freedom without the regulatory minimum," said Sarkozy in Quebet at a press conference after an EU-Canada summit with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
"We have the same beliefs" for the reorganization of the financial sector, said Sarkozy, in the presence of Harper as well as European Commission President Jos Manuel Barroso.
According to Sarkozy, the new financial system, reorganized and well-regulated, should serve entrepreneurs rather than serve in the interest of speculators.
Regarding his visit to Quebec City, where the 12th Francophone summit is to open later Friday, Sarkozy said he came to hear the "voice," the "strong voice" of Canada vis-a-vis its proposals to save the financial sector.
After the opening of the Francophone summit, Sarkozy and Barroso will travel to the United States for a meeting with President George W. Bush to talk about the financial crisis.
