Five bomb explosions injured at least 11 people in the Colombian capital of Bogota on Thursday, where a workers' strike was underway, police said.
Senior security officer Gen. Rodolfo Palomino told Xinhua, "There are 11 injured people. Fortunately, none of them are in grave conditions."
"We need to warn the citizens not to get close to public garbage bins, because all explosive devices were put in them," Palomino added.
The police said the bombs contained 200-500 grams of explosives, and one explosion occurred near the Peruvian embassy.
The police said they were trying to find out whether the explosions were related to the ongoing strike, which began in the morning to demand higher salaries and better working conditions.
Rafael Perez, who luckily escaped the attack, told Xinhua, "I survived by some miracle. I left the spot seconds after the explosion."
The injured have been taken to hospitals, while the police cordoned off the explosion sites to investigate the attacks.
Thousands of protestors marched in main streets of Bogota and in cities of Barranquilla in the north, Cali in the southwest and Bucaramanga in the northeast of the country to voice their demands.
The Colombian workers' union denied the explosions had relations with the strike.
