Four people were killed and three others injured Tuesday in an air crash in Colombia's western Choco province, local media reported.

The small passenger plane crashed into a nearby mountain after taking off from an airport in Choco province, witnesses said.

Four of the seven passengers on board were killed instantly. The three injured have been sent to a local hospital.

The plane, belonging to a private company, was destined for Quibodo, capital of the province.

A Colombian army officer said the accident had nothing to do with the rebel group, Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), which actively operates in the province.

The cause of the air crash is being investigated, he added.
