The Venezuelan government on Wednesday sent a message of sympathy to the Pakistani people over the major earthquake earlier in the day, which killed at least 160people in the southwestern Balochistan province.

"The government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in the name of the Venezuelan people, joins the mourning relatives and friends of the victims of the strong earthquake," the Venezuelan government said in a communique addressed to the Pakistani people.

Venezuela extends its deepest sympathies to the people affected by this tragedy, the communique added.

A powerful earthquakes hit southwestern Pakistan's Balochistan province early Wednesday morning, followed by several strong aftershocks, leaving more than 160 people dead, scores injured and15,000 homeless.
