Ecuador on Thursday lodged a strong protest against Colombia for the intrusion by Colombian paramilitaries into Ecuadorian territories.
The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry accused the Colombia border troops of negligence for the incursion by Colombian militants into Ecuadorian city of Borbon 45 km from the border with Colombia.
"The incursion is a proof more of a lack of Colombian military and police control in the border with Ecuador, so we have requested again the Colombian authorities to reinforce their presence and border control to prevent events like this from happening again," said the ministry in a statement.
The Ecuadorian Defense Ministry said Tuesday that three Ecuadorians were injured on Sunday night when some 20 armed members of a Colombian paramilitary group called Aguilas Negras (Black Eagles) entered a night club in Borbon seeking to kill an unidentified man.
Ecuador severed ties with Colombia on March 3, two days after the Colombian army attacked a camp of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in Ecuadorian territory without authorization.
