The U.S. military on Friday promoted Lt. Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody to be the first female four-star general in U.S. history.
She now leads the Army Materiel Command, which is responsible for equipping, arming and outfitting soldiers, and commands 133,000 personnel around the world.
"There is no one more surprised than I," she said at the promotion ceremony.
In U.S. military, there are fifty-seven active-duty women and 47 female reservists hold the rank of general or its Navy equivalent and Dunwoody, 55, is the only four-star general.
