The presidents of Brazil and South Korea on Wednesday signed a series of cooperation agreements to reinforce bilateral ties.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and visiting South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said they were satisfied with the progress of bilateral relations in the fields of politics, commerce, investment, science and technology, society and culture.
Both presidents hailed the incoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2009. They also expressed willingness to promote mutual understanding between the Brazilian and South Korean peoples and to contribute to the deepening of bilateral ties.
The two presidents agreed that there are business opportunities between their countries because the volume of bilateral trade, which was expected to reach more than 8 billion U.S. dollars this year, has increased rapidly during the past five months.
The leaders also signed agreements on technology cooperation and the establishment of a joint committee for commercial, investment and industrial cooperation.
Lee arrived in Brazil on Monday for an official visit. He will leave on Thursday.
