U.S. President George W. Bush will meet outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert at the White House on Monday with the two sides focusing on the Israeli-Palestinian situation, Iran's nuclear issues and other regional issues, the White House announced Thursday.
They will also discuss the global financial crisis, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters.
The scheduled meeting followed U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories early this month.
Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, under the U.S. pressure, resumed the long-stalled peace talks since November 2007.
Perino said early this month that a Middle East peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians was not likely before January 2009 although Olmert and Abbas pledged at U.S.-sponsored Annapolis conference last November, to reach a comprehensive peace agreement by the end of 2008.
Olmert resigned in September because of corruption charges. He is expected to remain in office until a new government is formed after a Feb. 10 election.
