New Orleans tops the nation for having the highest reported crimes in a new ranking, according to a book released on Monday.
The ranking lists Los Angeles No. 158 out of 385 U.S. cities analyzed, according to City Crime Rankings, an annual compilation of crime in cities with at least 75,000 residents.
The ranking measures the number of 2007 murders, rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries and car thefts reported to the FBI, according to the Daily News published in Los Angeles.
The FBI released this information from its Uniform Crime Reporting Program in September.
The 55-dollar, 416-page book comes from CQ Press, a Washington, D.C.-based independent book publisher affiliated with Congressional Quarterly, Inc.
In previous book editions, cities were labeled as safest or most dangerous. The book's editors have decided to no longer use those terms because they describe individual perceptions of safety and danger, the Daily News reported.
