The transition team of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama on Wednesday declined to comment on a report that Cuban leader Raul Castro is open to meet Obama.
According to an article published on the website of the Nation magazine, Raul Castro, president of the Council of the State of Cuba, told U.S. actor Sean Penn in an interview that Guantanamo Bay could serve as "neutral ground" for such a meeting.
Castro also said that the two leaders "must meet and begin to solve our problems."
Reached by CNN, the Obama team said it has no comment on the report.
Obama said earlier this year that he would be willing to meet without preconditions with Castro and other leaders "hostile toward the United States."
He also said he favors altering -- but retaining -- Washington's nearly five-decade trade embargo on Cuba.
