Wall Street moved moderately lower in early trading Friday, as investors left for the Thanksgiving holiday.
A decline in stocks is not a surprise after the big board posted its four-day gains in row for the first time since the spring.
U.S. retailers opened doors at midnight and discounted merchandise on the day after Thanksgiving, kicking off the possible weakest holiday shopping season in six years.
New York Stock Exchange was closed Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday and will be open for a shortened trading session Friday. As many traders gone for a long holiday weekend, the session is expected to be quiet. However, thin trading volume could exacerbate some of the market's moves.
The Dow Jones fell 10.11 to 8,716.50. Broader indexes also moved lower. The Standard & Poor's 500 index dipped 3.30 to 884.38;and the Nasdaq fell 15.54 to 1,516.56.
