U.S. President George W. Bush vowed on Saturday to fully support India in its efforts to investigate into the terror attacks in Mumbai leaving hundreds of casualties.
"We pledge the full support of the United States as India investigates these attacks, brings the guilty to justice and sustains its democratic way of life," Bush said after he returned to the White House from his Thanksgiving holiday in the Camp David.
"The killers who struck this week are brutal and violent," he said, "But terror will not have the final word. The people of India are resilient. The people of India are strong."
The attacks and standoff starting on Wednesday night were ceased as the last remaining extremists were killed, leaving almost 200 dead, including at least 26 foreigners.
The U.S. embassy in India has confirmed at least six American death in the attacks targeting Westerners.
Bush has sent condolences to his India counterpart, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, for all the victims of the violence.
"The people of India are resilient. The people of India are strong. They have built a vibrant, multi-ethnic democracy. They can withstand this trial," the U.S. president said. "Their financial capital Mumbai will continue to be the center of commerce and prosperity."
Bush also assured that President-elect Barack Obama would be informed of the latest developments.
