The third Cuba-Caribbean Community (Caricom) summit began on Monday with the attendance of 15 governors from the area to widen the collaboration between their countries.
Among those attended are Cuban Leader Raul Castro; Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer, who also is temporary president of Caricom; and general secretary of the bloc Edwin Spencer.
The meeting being held in the city of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, was labeled "Cooperation between Cuba and the countries of the Caricom. Current situation and perspectives."
The participants will review the impact of the financial, energy, food and environment crisis in the Caribbean countries.
During the meeting they will also coordinate the positions for the coming Latin American and Caribbean chiefs-of-state-summit on Integration and Development, which will be held in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil, on Dec. 16-17.
During the summit, Cuban former Leader Fidel Castro will be decorated with the Honorary Order, Spencer said.
"Fidel is the person who most deserves that decoration, for the great support he has always given to the nations of the area," Spencer said.
"Fidel is a truly Caribbean man, an exceptional human being, whose decisive contribution to the development of the region will never be underestimated," Spencer said. Source:Xinhua
