An armed group on Thursday killed a top police officer in the northwestern Mexican state of Baja California, said the Prosecutor's Office.
That was the eighth murder against the police in the state in less than two months, local media said.
The victim was Jesus Maria Elizalde Romero, sub-commander of the Municipal Police of Rosarito Beaches. He was murdered aboard a patrol car on the Tijuana-Rosarito highway in the zone known as Rancho del Mar, according to the state Prosecutor's Office.
Experts found at least 20 bullet holes of AR-15 and AK-47 on the patrol car.
Some days ago the authorities in Rosarito announced that patrols should be conducted by at least two policemen to avoid the risk of being attacked.
