Five foreign-born men were convicted Monday by a jury in New Jersey of conspiring to kill U.S. soldiers at a military base.

The U.S. Attorney's office in New Jersey said in a statement that the defendants were acquitted of attempted murder charges, but still face life in prison.

Earlier, another man involved in the case pleaded guilty to gun offense charges.

The six defendants were arrested on May 7, 2007, as two of them met a undercover government informant to buy weapons to be used in an attack on the U.S. Army base in Fort Dix, New Jersey, prosecutors said.

The men also allegedly had practiced shooting and possessed terrorism propaganda materials.

Four of the defendants were from the former Yugoslavia, one was from Jordan and the other from Turkey.
