High winds left 230,000 homes in southeast Michigan without power on Sunday and 135,000 of them are still in the dark on Monday.
Power will be restored by Tuesday night to about 90 percent of those homes, according to the DTE Energy, the electricity provider in that area.
"It really is broadscale damage," DTE spokesman Michael Porter told reporters. "In some cases, trees have been uprooted and knocked down poles and wires. Each is a construction job all its own," he added.
DTE called in extra crews from Ohio, Indiana and Illinois after230,000 homes in southeast Michigan lost power on Sunday.
The company has 1,000 workers clearing trees, re-installing poles and restringing power lines.
The high Winds forced several flight delays and cancellations at Detroit Metro Airport and were also to blame for some area AT&T Wireless customers losing service temporarily on Sunday night.
