U.S. President George W. Bush has been briefed on the situation in the Gaza Strip and Israel's military actions there, said the White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe on Saturday, hours after Israel's ground troops entered the territory.

"President Bush was briefed this afternoon on the current situation in Gaza and the actions of the IDF (Israel Defense Force)," said the spokesman, adding "U.S. officials have been in regular contact with the Israelis as well as officials from countries in the region and Europe."
