U.S. federal prosecutors have been granted more time to get an indictment of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, local media reported Monday.
Federal prosecutors charged Blagojevich in early December on a criminal complaint. Federal law gives them 30 days to get an indictment from a grand jury. But what they'll argue is that the case is too complex to meet that deadline, plus the holidays interfered.
Blagojevich was accused of selling senator seat vacated by President-elected Barack Obama.
Chief District Court Judge James Holderman entered an order allowing the indictment deadline to be extended from Jan. 7 to April 7, according to the court docket in the Blagojevich case.
Federal prosecutors had sought the extension last week, citing the complexity of their investigation of pay-to-play politics in the Blagojevich administration. Source:Xinhua
