Two passengers were killed and the other two seriously injured in the crash of a small single-engine airplane southeast of Quebec City, capital city of Canada's Quebec province, on Tuesday.
The low-wing Piper Cherokee 140, which seats four people, went down in a in the mountainous terrain of Notre-Dame-Auxiliatrice-de-Buckland, about 65 kilometers southeast of Quebec City, Quebec provincial police said.
Two occupants who suffered severe injuries were air-lifted to a Quebec City hospital. The bodies of the two other people were still in the plane.
Rescue officials told CBC News that at least one person had been able to call 911 for help using a cellphone.
The plane had reportedly been en route from Ontario to Saint John, New Brunswick province, when it landed in Quebec City for refuelling.
It took off again at around 4 a.m. but around 5:30 a.m., officials reported it missing.
