U.S. President-elect Barack Obama is set to meet with Mexican President Felipe Calderon on Monday, his transition office said on Thursday.
According to the office, the meeting will take place at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, which will be the first time for Obama to hold bilateral talks with a foreign leader since he was elected as president on Nov. 4.
The office also said that the meeting was scheduled according to the U.S. tradition that a president should meet with Mexican leader immediately after he wins election.
The Mexican government also confirmed the meeting, saying that Calderon also would meet with congressional leaders during his visit to Washington, D.C.
With no more than two weeks before the Inauguration Day, Vice President-elect Joe Biden is also on a diplomatic mission.
According to his aides, Biden had a stop in Kuwait on his way to Southwest Asia on Thursday and held meetings with the country's prime minister and foreign minister, where they discussed Iraq, Iran and other international issues.
Analysts said that the trip sent a signal showing Obama has made the region a priority of his foreign policies.
